WELCOME ALL
VISITORS but ask that you call in advance. Day visits can
be easily arranged; overnight visits require more planning
as accommodations in the monastery are quite limited, and
often reserved weeks ahead. It is also possible to stay in
Safford, which is a 20 minute drive from the monastery. A
few of the local hotels are listed below.
All visitors are asked to come properly dressed. Women
should wear long skirts or dresses that come below the
knee, long sleeved blouses, and have a scarf that
completely covers their head and ties under the chin,
covering the neck. Men should wear pants and long sleeved
shirts. Socks must be worn by all, especially with
sandals. Sheer stockings are not acceptable. Smoking is
forbidden on monastery grounds. Please ask a blessing of
the Abbess before taking photographs.

Directions from Phoenix
Take Hwy 60 East
to Globe where it changes to Hwy 70. Continue east on Hwy
70. Pass through Thatcher and most of Safford. At Hwy 191
(i.e., 1st Ave.) turn right and proceed south for
approximately 10 ½ miles. Shortly after mile-marker 111,
turn left on Artesia Road (it is a dirt road). Continue on
Artesia for approximately 1½ miles. At Sky Blue Road, turn
left and proceed to the monastery entrance. (Do not
proceed down the road marked “Road Not Maintained.”)
Directions from Tucson
Take I-10
East to Hwy 191 North (toward Safford); do not turn off
at 191 S which comes about 6 miles before 191 N. Proceed north on Hwy 191. Shortly after mile-marker
110, turn right on Artesia Road. Continue on Artesia
Road for approximately 1½ miles. At Sky Blue Road, turn
left and proceed to the monastery entrance. (Do not
proceed down the road marked “Road Not Maintained.”)
